My Grace-Full Life

A Prayer for 9.8.20

These are the inheritances that the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel gave them to inherit.  (Joshua 14:1 ESV)

Dear Heavenly Father, Sometimes, when we read the Bible — especially land allotment, temple measurements, and genealogies — we skim. We don’t think the information is relevant to us. That was the case for me this morning as I read about land allotment in Joshua 14. But, even as I prayed and told You I didn’t understand how this was valuable to me, You reminded my heart of this truth:  Just because I don’t understand something… just because I don’t recognize the significance… just because I can’t relate… doesn’t mean that there isn’t purpose and power. And then, You graciously reminded me that every part of the Bible is Your inspired Word, and it is good. You reminded me that this passage is demonstration that You are a God who keeps promises. You are faithful. So while the specific allotment of Israel to the tribes isn’t necessarily relatable to me this many years removed, I am grateful for the reminder that You kept Your promises then. And You keep them today. You are a good, good Father. I know You answer prayers.  I know You always come through. Thank You, Father, for the reminder that sometimes, we have to look deeper than the superficial to remember Your bigger plan and purpose. In the Holy Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
