Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. (James 1:19-20 ESV)
Jesus, it’s so hard not to be mad these days. There is so much conflicting information and so many things that are wrong with this world. It’s easy to look at others and stop seeing our friends, but see them as enemies. But we have to be careful. You told us to love our neighbors, and even love and pray for our enemies. And your own half-brother wisely wrote, “let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” Let us all remember that truth. Help us to know that we need to listen more and talk less. Help us to tame our tempers and exercise self-control even in a world that feels like it’s spinning out of control. Help us to react in ways that are God-honoring and reflective of the Truth of Your Holy Word. It’s in Your Name I pray, Amen.
