And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” (Luke 12:15 NKJV)
Dear Lord Jesus, You said, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” The idea that we own anything is a misnomer. Everything we have is a gift from the Father’s generous hand. As we are reminded in Job 1:21, “And he said: ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.’” Help us to hold onto “stuff” loosely and to never put our faith in our belongings. Help us to remember that the only thing we can never lose is our salvation. Help us to trust in You more than we trust in money, homes, cars, work, health, family, friends, or anything else. In Your Name, Amen.
