Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4 NKJV)
Dear Lord God, Is there a verse as misunderstood as this one in Scripture? It’s at least in the Top 10…. When King David wrote Psalm 37, and the verse, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart,” it wasn’t an implication that You are a genie to grant us our three wishes. But instead, we should humble our hearts and do as Jesus commanded in Matthew 6:33 — to seek You first — both Your kingdom and Your righteousness. When we seek those things, then, our desires align with Your desires. So Lord, today, I pray that You will help me to want Your will over my own. Help me to delight in Your ways so that my greatest heart’s desires are the same as Yours. Help me to trust that when I delight in You alone, You will meet my needs — and all I need is You. I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
