And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32 NKJV)
Dear Jesus, It feels like kindness is becoming a rare commodity in this world. Maybe even on the verge of extinction. At least, when it comes to kindness towards people we disagree with…. But this isn’t right. And while the world slips into unkindness, You told us to be in the world, but not of it. You called us to be kind. You modeled kindness. And if we follow the summary of Your command to love God first above all else and then to love our neighbors as ourselves — kindness is a side-effect of that obedience. Yet, we are an unkind world. As Your followers, help us to follow in kindness. Please grant us kind hearts that seek to extend hands of friendship, even to those we don’t like or agree with. Help us to show others what Christian kindness looks like and by doing so, encourage them to take a closer look at You for themselves. In Your Name, Amen.
