Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22 NKJV)
Dear Heavenly Father, Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” Thank You for being the God who cares about every detail of our lives — thank You for being the one true living God who is invested in Your creation. But even years before Peter penned these words that have endured through the centuries, King David wrote them too. When he was tempted to run from his problems and avoid them, he identified the solution that is still relevant — give our problems to You. Trust You. Understand that You are in control. Believe that You are our Rock and we cannot be shaken by the storms of life when we take shelter in You. So Lord, I ask You to take my burdens. Take my worries, fears, anxieties, sadness, heartbreak, and everything that wears me down — and help me to remember this truth: You care enough to carry the load for me. And You can be trusted to handle it. Please help me to surrender it. Finally, when I’m tempted to try to take it back (because I will be), remind my heart that in addition to giving You the burdens, my job is to praise and worship You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
