PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• This is one tired girl writing this morning… I’ve been up since 2:30 so I could drive my husband to Raleigh for a flight to Cincinnati. I just got home and am going to nap before I go to church. So this will be short…
I don’t really love driving in the dark. I’m known to be a slow driver in the best of circumstances, but especially in the dark, because I don’t have the greatest of night vision. But after I dropped Wayne off at the airport, I spent the hour and 45 minutes drive home listening to praise and worship music. It made the time go a lot faster! It also helped me process some of the stuff we have going on right now… my husband‘s father is not well. My husband is going to spend time with him this week, and I’m going to drive up to Cincinnati in a couple of days to visit.
To say the least, it’s been an emotional few weeks at our house as phone calls and text messages are exchanged with Wayne‘s sister and we learn of his father’s prognosis. But it seemed like all the worship music I listened to this morning focused on two of the truths that we need reminding of often—God is in control and God is good.
As a control-freak, I do not like surprises. At all. I like knowing what’s coming and it frustrates me when things don’t make sense because I like order. But life doesn’t often make sense. I take great comfort in knowing that my Creator knows every detail of the past, present, and future. He cannot be surprised! And He has a plan, even when situations look grim.
Proverbs 18:10 reminds us, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe” (ESV).
When life is full of uncertainties… when loved ones are sick… when our emotions are high and our hearts are low… our place of safety is always found at the feet of Jesus.
Today, as you pray, thank God that even circumstances that feel out of control, He is in control. Ask the Holy Spirit to keep you focused on Jesus whenever uncertainties and doubts overwhelm you.
