My Grace-Full Life

9.28.17 Prayer Prompt: Don't Read This. Read the Bible.

PRAYER PROMPT ••• 70% of Americans identify as Christians; and less than 25% are reading their Bibles daily (though 90% of households have a Bible!)
In April this year, Lifeway Research shared survey results of American’s viewpoint on reading the Bible.
The sad reality: people aren’t reading their Bibles.
I’m not judging.
I’ve been there.
A skimmer.
Floating along with just enough Biblical knowledge to get by, but without real substance.
Speaking from a voice of experience, if you think reading this or a devotional book offers the same thing – it’s doesn’t.
I’d rather you quit reading My Grace-Full Life all together and go pick up your Bible.
A devotional isn’t the Word of God!
I pray every morning before I write, and as seriously as I take this responsibility, the best place you’re going to get Biblical Truth is from God Himself!
Not from me or a faith-based calendar; not from any book short of the Holy Bible.
Anything else is ancillary and should be accepted with caution to be sure the message is true to God’s Word!
And how will you know if you don’t know Scripture?
The Bible is how we go from knowing about Jesus to actually knowing Jesus.
To the world’s eyes, a deep dive into Scripture may seem silly, even undignified in this “enlightened” world.
But who cares?
Jesus Himself quoted the Bible when tempted by the devil.
“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4, based on Deuteronomy 8:3).
Don’t wait for Sunday to crack that spine; do it daily.
Do it now.
If you’re running short on time and can’t read this and the Bible – you won’t hurt my feelings.
Go get your Bible.
In it is all you need.
Today, as you pray, if you’re a regular Bible reader, please join me in prayer that others will pick up their Bibles and read.
Our country desperately needs revival and it’s going to start in the Word.
If you don’t read your Bible regularly, please my Friend, ask God to help you learn how.
Ask Him to help you overcome whatever hesitation you have and trust me when I say, it’s the best choice you will make, short only of accepting Jesus Christ into your heart.
