9.23.17 Prayer Prompt: The Second Coming of Christ

PRAYER PROMPT ••• A “Christian Numerologist” has predicted Jesus’ return today.
His title is an oxymoron.
Christianity, numerology, and astrology don’t mix.
A better term for such a person is “False Prophet.”
Jesus said, in Matthew 24:36, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.”
Before I go any further, this verse has caused me confusion, not in regards to Jesus’ second coming, but how could Jesus not know??
He’s God in human form!
I get it now though.
At the time Jesus spoke these words, while He was still God, He’d relinquished certain parts of His divinity during His earthly ministry.
After His resurrection, He reassumed them.
It’s like if we took off our coat while we were in one place and put it back on in another.
It’s still our coat.
Jesus voluntarily took off part of His divinity while on earth, but put it back on when He was ready. has an excellent article on the topic, “If Jesus was God, why did He not know when He would return?”
I highly recommend it, especially since they back up all they say with Scripture references, including Philippians 2:5-11.
But going back to my earlier topic.
It is both wrong and irresponsible to try to announce a time for Jesus’ return.
No. One. Knows.
He could come today.
Next year.
In 1000 years!
The point is, our job as Christians isn’t to focus on WHEN He’s coming, but 1) be ready when He does and 2) encourage as many as we can to come with us.
Earlier, I referred to a “Christian Numerologist” as a “False Prophet.”
I’m not being judgmental.
This is real and we are to be diligent about a true preacher of the Gospel and a false prophet.
We are warned of them in the Bible, including 1 John 4:1, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
Today, as you pray, ask God to help you be ever-diligent for the second coming of Jesus.
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with discernment to tell true preaching from false teachings.
And thank Jesus that He does promise to return!
