PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• There are several out there who are known for prosperity preaching. Popular though they may be, you will never know me to endorse any of them.
It can get confusing though to those who don’t read Scripture or actively seek God. There are verses that, when pulled out of context, insinuate prosperity.
The dangerous thing about prosperity preaching is that it gives the illusion that God wants to bestow riches and gifts in this life. But God is far more interested in your spiritual health than He is your physical comfort.
Jesus Himself said, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10b ESV). But He didn’t mean riches. While He may bestow financial blessings, His greatest gifts have nothing to do with money.
The abundant life is about joy and peace that only comes from God. Romans 15:13 ESV says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” This is my favorite summation of the abundant life.
Don’t you love that our God is called “the God of Hope?” I just love that. And it’s safe to place our hope in Him because He cannot lie and He does not break promises (Titus 1:2 and Hebrews 10:23).
Prosperity in this world can never measure up to the abundance of peace, hope, and love found in Jesus Christ. Nothing will ever satisfy us apart from Him.
Today, as you pray, thank God for the abundant life found in Jesus. Thank Him that it’s safe to put our hope and trust in Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with the abundant life of peace, hope, and love.
