9.20.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: The Breath of Life

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• When I wake up every morning, I try to remember to thank God for a new day. Some mornings, I’m better at it than others. But between the time we close our eyes at night and open them again in the morning, God has been watching over us, giving us rest, as He prepares to wake us up for a new day (Psalm 121).

It’s a tremendous gift.

So is the gift of breathing. We do this breathing in and out thing automatically. We don’t give it conscious thought. But the very breath we have is from God.

Genesis 2:7 ESV says, “then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

Around the world, there are babies being born who are taking their first breath while other people are taking their last. Each breath we take is a gift from the One who created us and who has numbered our days (Job 14:5).

Today, as you pray, thank God for giving you the breath of life to carry you through each day. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you be mindful of the gift and throughout the day, keep prayer and praise on your breath as you ponder all that God has done for you.
