PRAYER PROMPT ••• How important is the truth?
I’m sure you don’t like lies, but what about half-truths?
Or do you want the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
Most of us expect the whole truth, but our world seems to prefer half-truths.
And I’m not talking about “fake news.”
Our world embraces the idea that if you do good and you do nice things, you can earn a place in heaven.
The Bible clearly says that’s not true, yet we have “preachers” out there who are using Scripture to twist God’s word into their feel-good theology.
They are too cowardly to say to their congregations, “You are a sinner and nothing you say, do, or think will be good enough to earn you a spot in the home of the one and only holy and perfect God.”
So I’ll say it.
You are a sinner and nothing you say, do, or think will be good enough to earn you a spot in the home of the one and only holy and perfect God.
But I’m right there with you.
I’m not good enough either.
Romans 3:10 says, “‘None is righteous, no, not one;'”
Thankfully, Jesus is the one exception and that’s where I’ve placed my hope.
Proverbs 23:23 says, “Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.”
How do you buy truth?
Thank you, Logos Bible Software for helping me do some cross-referencing at very-early-AM, including the words of Jesus in Matthew 13:44, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
Jesus also said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
So if we are to buy (or obtain) truth, we start with Jesus.
He IS the truth.
As we seek Him (like the man who discovered treasure in a field), then we are willing to fully embrace the Truth, surrender our own agenda, and follow Him.
Today, as you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to God’s Truth, not the world’s.
Ask for wisdom to seek what the Bible has to say, even if we must face some uncomfortable convictions.
Ask for courage to follow God’s plan.
Thank Jesus that through Him, you the opportunity to live in the home of the one and only holy and perfect God.
