9.16.17 Prayer Prompt: Are You Connected to the Word?

PRAYER PROMPT ••• For the wireless society we are, we spend a lot of time connected and plugged in… but are we connected to what matters most?
In our ongoing pursuit for the perfect Wi-Fi signal so we can catch up on emails and social media, have we left time in the day to plug into God’s Word?
We take for granted the ease at which we can access it.
It’s available in so many translations that are both print and electronic (though discernment should be used in selecting a trusted translation!).
Go to any bookstore and pick from pocket size to large print to study to coloring Bibles.
On your smart phone – dozens of options are available through free apps (I have four on my phone!).
Audiobooks – let someone read the Bible to you.
Get it on your Kindle or Nook.
I’m not trying to date myself here, but all of this is available within the last few years!
I am 42.
I didn’t grow up with a computer in my house and our phones were still connected to a wall.
I was excited when my parents got a cordless phone!
This ability to easily access God’s Word is really a new concept!
Yet, why aren’t more Christians reading it?
Because we’re lazy?
Intimidated?
Too busy?
We have good intentions but are just too overwhelmed?
With the Bible so accessible now, very few Christians have an excuse not to spend a few minutes of their day in Scripture; even a verse a day is a start.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.”
Like all things, getting started is the hardest part.
But once you’re in there and you consistently read God’s Word, the more you understand.
The more you get to know God.
Today, as you pray, if you’re a regular Bible reader, ask God to give you the courage to encourage others to read the Word too.
And if you’re not reading your Bible daily, ask the Holy Spirit to open up opportunities for you to begin.
