My Grace-Full Life

9.14.17 Prayer Prompt: A Lasting Impact

PRAYER PROMPT ••• I woke up this morning to learn one of my favorite teachers from high school passed away.
I haven’t seen her in years and it’s been well over 24 years since I sat in her classroom.
Mrs. Gendy taught me French, a subject I wasn’t remotely good at, but despite that, the impact she had on my life endured.
Seriously, I was just talking about her this week, remembering how I loved her class, despite my inability to grasp her subject!
I am so sad for her family, and I hate that I didn’t know she’d been sick.
I would have gone to see her.
But she loved Jesus, so I know we’ll catch up again one day.
As I think about her this morning, I realize the importance of our roles in other people’s lives.
Do you ever wonder what kind of impact you are having on someone?
If you think you can’t make a difference, think again.
In John 6, Jesus fed 5000 from five barley loaves and two fish.
The lunch was given by a little boy.
We don’t know his name or how old he was.
But when hunger came calling, he offered what he had.
The story doesn’t share much about him, but I imagine a group of grown men (the disciples) fretting about how to feed thousands of people.
Without a caterer nearby, this boy shyly offered what little he had and despite the disciples’ skepticism, they brought his meager offering to Jesus.
Jesus then used it to touch the lives that surrounded that child.
This little boy didn’t offer much; just the lunch his mother likely packed for him.
And the story continues to endure to this day.
While the focus of the story is on Jesus’ miracle, there are other lessons to learn including this: a child-like faith can leave a lasting impact, the effect of which can last for generations.
My teacher’s loving example of faith lived out has stuck with me.
She showed her faith to me when I was a teenager and the impact is still strong.
Today, as you pray, thank God for those who quietly leave an impact of their faithfulness on you.
Ask Him to help you too, to show others through your everyday actions, that you love Jesus.
