PRAYER PROMPT ••• We need God.
All the time.
In one of His seven “I am” statements, Jesus said, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).
A branch without a vine is nothing.
It accomplishes nothing.
It cannot grow.
It cannot blossom.
It’s just there.
So we know we need God because we cannot do anything of true value and lasting purpose without Him.
But the question today is, does God need us?
The answer in its most simple form is no.
But even though He doesn’t need us, He wants us.
He loves us and values us so much that He sent Jesus to die for us.
Romans 5:8 says, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
His is totally a want vs. need situation.
It’s similar to the parent-child relationship.
Any parent would say no matter what their child puts them through, they can’t imagine life without that child.
Yet, they lived for years without them!
I was 23 when my son was born.
He’s 19, within five months of 20.
I’ve been his mom for almost half my life.
I barely remember what life was like without him.
But once upon a time, I lived without him.
I don’t need him in the sense of survival, the way we need God.
But I want him because I love him.
We know the tremendous love we have for our children.
Yet God’s love is so much bigger.
We can’t imagine anyone loving our kids more than we do, but He does!
And He loves all of us that way.
He has chosen to put Himself out there and we can also choose whether to have a relationship with Him.
Isn’t that the most humbling thought?
We are not needed, yet we are wanted.
Don’t you think that’s amazing?
When we go about our prayer life, letting God know we need this and we want that, do we ever stop to say, “Thank You for wanting me. I know You can exist without me, but You don’t want to… and I can’t exist without You.”
Today, as you pray, thank God that in the scope of wants vs. needs, He still chose you.
Offer your praise to the Creator of the universe who WANTS you.
