My Grace-Full Life

8.4.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Our Unique Calling

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Earlier this week, I shared that based on some wisdom I gained from She Speaks that there were some changes coming to My Grace-Full Life.
For several months, I’ve prayed about it…
And asked the Holy Spirit, am I still on the path you want me to be on?
Am I doing what you want me to do or is there another assignment?
She Speaks is a great place to reflect on God’s calling, but two workshops, in particular, have really validated the questions I’ve been asking…
One thing was for certain: I want every word I write to be totally about Jesus.
Not because I am worried about what readers expect or disappointing them if I miss a day.
No offense, of course, because you are all important to me!
I have prayed countless times for God to use this to bless those who read it.
I’m grateful for the kind words and encouragement you’ve given me.
But from the beginning, MGFL has never been about me or anyone else, but about Him.
However, I’m still human.
I know how easy it is to fall into the trap of “aren’t I clever,” and begin taking credit for something that isn’t mine to take credit for…
I also know what it is to compare myself to others.
And to ask God if He’s going to send more readers my way or monitor the number of followers another writer has…
It doesn’t matter if you’re a writer or not, we all play the comparison game.
But God has a unique calling and purpose for each one of us.
He’s not going to gift wrap the same exact item for everyone.
He has given something to you that is specifically designed for you.
He has given something to me that is specifically designed for me.
We have to focus on our individual purpose rather than worrying about what someone else got in their package.
Satan loves for us to assume the grass is greener…
“If I had what she had, my life would be perfect…”
“Why is God blessing him with that when he doesn’t deserve it or appreciate it.”
That trap is so easy to fall in, and even Peter fell victim to it.
When Jesus instructed Peter to feed His lambs, tend His sheep, and then feed His sheep in John 21:15-19, Peter initially neglected to focus on Jesus’ instructions to him…
He asked in verse 21, “Lord, what about him?”
Peter was asking about what calling Jesus was going to give to John.
“Jesus answered, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.’” (John 21:22).
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, God has a purpose for you.
Always the Gentleman, God will continue to gently steer you and teach you as He directs you to follow Him.
Today, as you pray, ask for the wisdom to hear God’s voice.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you focus on your personal mission without worrying about what others have been called to do.
Pray that Jesus will use you to His glory, and never your own.
Thank Jesus that He is trustworthy and good and worth following…
Because in the end, no matter what our individual purpose is, He promises eternal life to all who believe in Him.
