My Grace-Full Life

8.4.17 Prayer Prompt: Admiring God's Handiwork

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Throughout my life, I’ve had moments where I stood outside of wherever I was living at the time, and wondered what the ground I was standing on looked like 100 years ago… 200 years ago… 500…
As much as I appreciate the modern conveniences that go in our homes (I.e., internet, electricity, running water, indoor plumbing, and air conditioning in NC August), I think there was more opportunity to appreciate God’s handiwork even 100 years ago.
Of course, being an 80s girl at heart, I probably should change that to 120+ years ago. (I’m one of those who still thinks of the 1980s and 1990s as 20 / 10 years ago, respectively, no matter how much time passes.)
But I digress…
120+ years ago, there was more space and less construction.
Fewer highways cutting into what must have once been magnificent farms and rolling hills.
While we can certainly go to nature reserves, mountains, the beach, and other places to stand in awe of God’s creation, we have to look for it a bit more in our modern neighborhoods.
I love this verse from Isaiah 40:12, “Who else has held the oceans in his hand? Who has measured off the heavens with his fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed the mountains and hills on a scale?”
When you take your family on vacation to the beach and you look at the ocean stretching out before you — too big to fully wrap your brain around — think about that verse.
Let that sink in and then, remember verse 25, “‘To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?’ asks the Holy One.”
God has no equal.
Today, as you pray, take a moment to stand in awe of God’s greatness; His absolute power; and His wonderful creativity that touches the world around us… and even us.
Thank Him for giving you the opportunity to live and worship Him.
