8.31.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Gotta Have Faith

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Even though I grew up in the church, there was a time where the word “faith” was more apt to make me think of George Michael than anything else. I am clearly a child of 80s music. But the “Faith” I sang my heart out to in 1987 is not the kind of faith I sing of today.

While my inner 13-year-old still loves the tune of George Michael’s “Faith,” the 44-year-old version of me is wise enough to know what real faith looks like. It has roots—deep roots. It’s not based on the superficial “faith” that we’ll find others to be there for us. But faith is the rock-solid knowledge (and acceptance) that Someone already IS there for us.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1 ESV) and “we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV). Because of this, we know that true faith does “not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God” (1 Corinthians 2:5 ESV). And it was through God’s power that Jesus rose from the dead and with our faith in that truth, we can trust in the promise of Jesus who said, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20b ESV). Jesus is the rock, solid foundation of faith—the author and perfecter of it (Hebrews 12:2).

And faith in Jesus is everything to me.

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for writing faith on the heart of anyone who seeks Him and asks. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in all you say and do. Ask Him to help your faith to be strong and never fail. Ask Him to give you the strength and courage to believe when it seems that hope is outside of your reach.
