My Grace-Full Life

8.25.17 Prayer Prompt: There's Change, Then There's Jesus

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Last night, my son came over to visit me.
He’s just returned from a trip to Brooklyn and I haven’t seen him in over a week.
As he sat on the couch and showed me pictures from his vacation, he leaned his head on my shoulder.
No small feat since I’m 5’4 and he’s over 6’…
But he was sprawled across the couch, lounging back toward me so I could see his phone.
Any mom of a grown child can appreciate this.
In that moment, I remembered my little boy who would clamor in my lap to lay his head on my shoulder…many few short years ago.
When it comes to children, the cliche is true – you blink and they are grown.
They are a great reminder that change happens.
It’s all around us and it’s ongoing.
But the constant in life is Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
His consistency is a gift – a great comfort when our children have grown up and left…
When a diagnosis changes a lifetime of plans…
Or when you find yourself at a fork in the road, unsure of whether to turn right or left.
Whichever direction you take, as long as Jesus lives in your heart, He’s a part of the journey.
And thanks to the Holy Spirit, He can help guide us during seasons of change, even when we are not sure we are ready.
I know so many who are in this season right now, especially as they send their kids off to college.
Change is both scary and exciting!
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus that no matter how much changes, He does not.
And thank Him that He’s always with you through life’s twists and turns.
Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you, no matter where the road leads.
