8.23.22 Personalize the Word: 1 John 1:9

1 John 1:9 NKJV

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If _________ confess[es] {his/her} sins, He is faithful and just to forgive _________’s sins and to cleanse {him/her} from all unrighteousness.

Jesus, Thank You that Your forgiveness extends to me and anyone who calls on You — no matter the magnitude of our sins, Your blood covered them all. Our job is simply to repent and ask for Your forgiveness… and in Your goodness, You always hear a sincere and repentant heart. In Your Name, Amen.

Disclaimer:  This is not meant to re-write Scripture. The Bible is clear that we are not to add or takeaway from it. However, if you’re a new believer — you may struggle to figure out how these verses apply to you… or if you’re a seasoned believer, you may have grown numb to the words from familiarity.  This exercise isn’t meant to alter or change God’s Word or the context of the verse.  Instead, the goal is to remind us how personal His Word is. The Bible is God’s love letter to you and me. As one person put it, “The Bible is the only book, where the Author is in love with the reader.”
