PRAYER PROMPT ••• Most Americans have heard about the upcoming solar eclipse and many are excited about it.
I get it.
(Sort of.)
But just so we’re all on the same page, this Monday, people have the opportunity to see the moon fully block the sun.
The last time this happened was 1918.
This morning, as I prayed about what to write today, the Holy Spirit put on my mind how often we let mundane things in our life eclipse the Son.
While Monday’s phenomenon is a rare occurrence, our tendency to lose focus on Jesus happens too often.
We let life and our responsibilities overshadow our time with Jesus Christ.
We let other things become our priorities.
When Jesus was asked which of the commandments was the greatest, He said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37).
As our greatest commandment is to love Him, it obviously means Jesus should be our priority.
Yes, priority even over our families, friends, jobs, homes, and everything else that demands our attention.
The cool thing about making Jesus the priority and focus is that when we do, all other things fall into place!
However, when our focus is out of whack, we feel overwhelmed and frustrated.
Jesus also said, in Mark 8:35-36, “For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?”
Putting other things first is something we’re all guilty of.
Would you agree?
I’d raise both hands here, but I’ve got to type!
I spent years with my priorities way out of whack.
However, I know from personal experience, focusing on the Son, creates immeasurable peace.
Don’t be distracted.
If you have other things that are blocking you from seeing the Son, rearrange things.
Let Him be your first priority.
Today, as you pray, ask Jesus to help you keep your eyes on Him.
Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of your priorities so that you won’t be tempted by distractions.
