PRAYER PROMPT ••• It is hard to maintain a life balance.
Between church, family, friends, work, personal health, and hobbies – the juggling act is real.
My husband and I are big fans of the TV show, “The Office,” and in one episode, Michael Scott says, “I mark [memos] as Urgent A, Urgent B, Urgent C, Urgent D. Urgent A is the most important. Urgent D you don’t even really have to worry about.”
It’s unrealistic to think everything can be a top priority.
You can’t give 100% to everything.
Something will suffer.
What is your priority in life?
Luke 12:34 says, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
If you’re honest, are you happy with your choice?
I took this same long, hard look in the mirror two years ago, knowing I had to change.
It’s a life lesson I’m still learning because I like to work.
I like the feeling of productivity and accomplishment that comes from it, but even God takes a break.
In the 10 Commandments, we are told “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8).
God modeled this during creation when He rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:2).
Can any of us say we have more to do than God?
Seriously, I think His to-do list far outweighs any of our own, and at the end of it, does any of this really matter?
Obviously, we need to earn a living.
Paul wrote in 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: ‘Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.'”
The key is in the priority.
I’ve found, when I make Jesus my top priority, everything else falls into place.
When I let my focus shift, I become overwhelmed.
God never meant for us to be jugglers or walk a tightrope.
He designed us for the sole purpose of worshipping Him.
When Adam and Eve shifted their focus from obedience to God… well, you know what happened.
Sin entered the world and mankind has struggled since.
But life with Jesus at the center is the only hope for a truly balanced life.
Today, as you pray, ask God to help you with your priorities.
Ask Him to help you trust enough to put Jesus as your #1 focus, understanding that no other relationship or obligation is as important as He is.
