PRAYER PROMPT ••• Like many, I occasionally look to the weather app on my phone to see what I can expect for the day.
But more often, I use my own judgment when I let the dogs outside.
Hot? Cold? Rainy? Humid?
I let the early morning weather set the stage for how I will dress for the day.
A week or so ago, I let the dogs out and since it was cool out, I wore a sweater to work.
It wasn’t a heavy sweater, but definitely too warm for the afternoon.
I failed to look beyond my first impression of the day to see long term.
Turned out our chilly 50-something degree morning shifted into an 80-something degree afternoon.
I was ill-prepared for the change.
How often do we do that?
We make assumptions that impact so much, yet if we’d wait and learn the truth, we’d be far better off.
Relationships would be better and there’d be far less misunderstandings.
And we could remove that sweater on a warm day because we would have had the foresight to wear it with something other than a pair of leggings.
But as you know, there’s no such thing as a crystal ball.
No one (other than God) knows the future.
But a modicum of patience and trust and “wait and see” can really make the ultimate difference in our lives.
When we turn our future over to God and say, “I trust You,” we are better prepared for any situation (Proverbs 16:3).
Because we know He holds our futures in His hands anyway (Isaiah 40:12)!
And we know He has a plan for us (Jeremiah 29:11)!
Every day, He gives us a new morning to worship Him and give to Him all of ourselves so He can, in His mercy and grace, continue the work He began in us – making us more like Jesus.
Lamentations 3:22-24 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.'”
Today, as you pray, let God know you trust Him with the future that today and tomorrow holds.
Ask Him to give you the wisdom to look to Him in all situations so you can be prepared for all things; and be ready to navigate through the unexpected.
Ask Him to give you empathy for the unknown situations of others as well.
