8.11.17 Prayer Prompt: YOLO

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Is YOLO still a thing??
I’m not always up to date on what’s trendy, so I’m not sure.
I haven’t heard the shortened phrase for “You only live once,” in a while but it came to mind when I was reading the Bible this morning.
Trendy phrase or not – it’s an attitude I know is prevalent in our society.
So let’s talk about it.
On one hand, “you only live once,” is another way of saying life is short.
Weeks that once felt like a month now feel like a day; and a month that felt like a year now feels like a week!
As we get older, we realize how quickly time marches on.
But on the other hand, “you only live once,” encourages a self-centered lifestyle.
By acknowledging that life is short, someone may disregard the feelings or expectations of others or even responsibilities in the effort to live life to the fullest.
Bottom line – “You only live once,” is a gross misstatement.
We may live THIS life once, but this isn’t the one we’re living for.
Hebrews 13:14 says, “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
If we are looking at YOLO from an eternal perspective, “you only live once” to make a difference for the Kingdom of Heaven, what can you do to make that difference?
It’s not about what we have or what we do for a living.
It’s not about personal accomplishments!
This life is about creating something lasting and purposeful for the Kingdom of Heaven.
It’s about sharing the Love of Jesus with others.
Helping others find Jesus so they can secure their own eternity!
In short – it’s not about us.
It’s about Him.
Today, as you pray, ask God to help you put this world into perspective.
Ask Him to help you create a legacy for this life that speaks not of your personal accomplishments or size of your bank account — but a love for Jesus that is so strong… a devotion to Jesus that is so recognized…. THAT is what people remember when you travel from this life to the eternal life waiting in heaven.
