PRAYER PROMPT ••• When they say God speaks to us through His word – they aren’t kidding.
So here’s what happened – last night, I went to my church’s women’s Bible study.
When it came time for prayer requests, I didn’t speak up.
Mostly because I literally cannot tell anyone my prayer request without crying and I hate to cry in front of people.
But I stayed afterwards and talked to the two women who have organized the study.
True to form, I started sobbing as I told them that yes, I do have a prayer request.
(Even typing about it makes me cry!)
They were kind and gracious with their time and empathetic; they prayed with me.
Then, this morning, my Bible reading from Psalm 31:14 said, “But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, ‘You are my God!’”
The verse showed up a second time in Proverbs 31’s “Encouragement for Today.”
When the Lord puts a verse like that in front of me twice from separate sources on the heels of a conversation about trusting God with my heart’s deepest longing, yes – I’ve got it, Lord.
Trust is my word.
Trust is so hard, but we serve a God who is trustworthy!
Not once in scripture did He break a promise.
God is consistent and we can trust Him.
He knows the anguish of my heart and even when I don’t see any progress to what I’m praying for, I cling to two promises:
- whatever we ask of Him that lines up with His will, He’s promised to answer (John 14:13-14)
- the prayers of a godly person will have great results (James 5:16).
And today, I add a third truth to the promises I claim – “I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, ‘You are my God!”
Today, as you pray, if something is weighing on your heart, ask the Holy Spirit to help you trust too.
He is there with us and will even pray on our behalf if we ask Him to do so (Romans 8:26-27).
