TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36 ESV)
PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Good morning, and Happy Fourth of July. I woke up this morning to see that government leaders in Sacramento, CA have banned singing in church. Though I’m in NC, that was not a great way to start today.
Before my tongue starts bleeding here, I’m going to keep things short again and simply say this — “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Actually, I didn’t say it. Jesus said it in John 8:36. And His words carry far more weight than mine or anyone else’s.
As many churches continue to stay closed and governments try to restrict worship gatherings, how we can worship, and our freedom of worship is hindered by rules and regulations, remember this truth: true freedom is ONLY found in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 5:1 reminds us, “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” This verse tells us that because of the price Christ paid for us, we never have to be slaves to sin again. But nor do we ever have to feel imprisoned by anyone or anything. Jesus paid the price for us for all eternity and therefore — sing it to the rooftops! Praise Him! Worship Him! Even if you’re doing it from the middle of your living room! Church is not about a building. It’s about the people. And we ARE free to worship Him wherever we are and in whatever we’re doing. Celebrate it and do it.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for the freedom He offers — the only true authentic freedom we can ever know. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with a spirit of worship and praise and trust that you have that freedom to embrace the psalm, “Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him” (Psalm 98:1).
