PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Talk is cheap and actions speak louder than words.
Essentially, that’s what John was saying when he wrote, “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth” (1 John 3:18 ESV).
It’s something we all know but let’s be honest—how many of us want the rule to apply to everyone else?
How many of us tend to nod along but ignore any personal application unless it’s convenient for us?
Because to follow these instructions requires effort.
Prior to this admonition, John wrote, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him” (1 John 3:16-17 ESV).
We put love in action not for the sake of appearance but out of appreciation for the love Jesus demonstrated for us on the cross.
We do it to be more like Christ, not to be seen and praised by the world.
Love in action is never easy, but always worth it.
It speaks louder than any words we use.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for modeling love in action.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you mimic Christ’s example to love others with kindness, compassion, and action.
