7.28.17 Prayer Prompt: A To-Do List or a Conversation?

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Have you ever had someone who was really great at asking for favors, but even better at disappearing when they didn’t need anything?
Yeah, me too.
Next question… and be honest…
Have you ever been that person?
I think we all have.
And worst of all, I think we’re all guilty of doing it to the One who loves us best.
Let’s talk prayers today.
Yeah, I know… we talk prayers every day!
These are, after all, Prayer Prompts, (hopefully) designed to give you something different to think about.
A conversation starter, if you will.
Every morning, when I write these, I pray that God will give me a topic that will benefit the reader but also benefit me!
And most of all – glorify Him!
And today’s Prompt is based on something God’s really put on my heart – are our prayers conversations, or nothing more than divine checklists we expect God to handle?
Obviously, He wants to help us with those things.
But He also wants a relationship.
Going back to the original question, if you have a relationship based on constantly doing someone a favor, and then they aren’t around, is it really a relationship?
James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
I love that.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
How do you grow close to someone?
You know the answer – you talk to them.
Today, as you pray, ask God to show you how to talk.
Tell Him you want a relationship based on discussion and sharing, not a to-do list.
Ask Him to help you draw close to Him.
