PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• As my husband and my mother can both attest, I can sleep through an alarm clock like no one else.
When I was a teenager, the alarm would be set at the highest volume, and because I am a child of the 80s, the music set to the best of the 80s hair bands.
I slept through it every morning.
Everyone else woke up.
Even our neighbors commented that they could hear the alarm from their driveway.
And now, as a 43-year-old woman, I have my alarm set to go off seven times between 5:10 and 5:45 AM every morning.
And usually my husband, who doesn’t have to get up as early as I do, has to shove me awake to get me to turn off the clock.
It’s not that I don’t go to bed at a decent time…
Most nights I do.
I just sleep too hard to hear it.
In our spiritual lives, it can be hard to wake up too.
Life is full of distractions while we dream of other things.
It becomes really easy to hit the snooze bar on our relationship with Jesus.
We figure He understands that we’re busy with other obligations and we’ll work on growing close to Him later.
We’ll go to church next week.
We’ll join that Bible study next time.
We’ll pray tomorrow night.
We’ll read the entire Bible next year.
Friends, we have to wake up the truths of Jesus today.
Right now.
In Matthew 5:16, Jesus said, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Our lives and the way we live may be the spiritual alarm clock someone else needs to wake up to Jesus’ Truth too!
It’s a domino effect.
By waking up to Jesus and living for Him today, we can encourage and empower others to wake up to Him too.
We make a bold assumption that we have tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year.
But James 4:14 says, “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
We’re never ever going to regret waking up our lives to Jesus.
But I promise we will always wish we’d never hit snooze on the opportunities to live for Him sooner.
Our God is so patient and merciful though.
As long as you draw breath in this life, He’s willing to forgive and shower you with love and mercy.
Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for wanting a relationship with us.
Praise Him for being the Light of the World and ask Him to help you shine His light for others, so they too can wake up to the Truth!
