7.14.20 Praise & Prayer Prompt: You Are Seen

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.” (Genesis 16:13 ESV)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I heard about the coolest thing last night. It was an email promotion from Karen Kingsbury, one of my favorite Christian fiction writers. In the email, she shared a story that inspired “You Were Seen” cards.

These are not a typical kind of tract. On the website, YouWereSeen.com, it says, “The You Were Seen movement is about really seeing people, and helping those same people know they are seen by God every day. It’s about caring and kindness and making a difference.” It looks to be about the size of a business card, and it’s designed to be left with a tip, or shared with whoever seems to need this reminder—that they are seen by the God who created them and loves them.

I think it’s so cool and I’m planning to order a supply of them today. What an amazing tool to share Jesus with others!

This whole movement reminds me of Hagar. She was the servant of Sarah. Sarah had her husband, Abraham, sleep with Hagar in the hopes of having a child through her (Who on earth says the Bible is boring?!? This story is like “The Real Housewives of Canaan”). However, after getting her husband to sleep with another woman, Sarah developed an attitude (imagine that!), and Hagar, having enough of Sarah’s abuse, ran off. The angel of the Lord found her in the wilderness and comforted her, told her she was going to have a son and sent her back. Genesis 16:13 tells Hagar’s response, “So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, ‘You are a God of seeing,’ for she said, ‘Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.’”

El Roi is Hebrew for “The God Who Sees Me,” and you are seen! We are all seen by God as it says in Psalms 33:13, “The Lord  looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man…”

Isn’t that amazing? No matter how lonely we may feel or isolated from everyone, God sees us, and He knows us (Psalm 44:21), and He hears us (Psalm 66:17-20). He knows us by name (Isaiah 43:1).

Today, as you pray, thank God for being El Roi. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you know that you are seen, even when you feel completely alone. Ask Him to help you trust in El Roi and the love He has for you.
