PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Last night, my friend Amy posted a video about a decommissioned lighthouse that was turned into a hotel called Frying Pan Tower.
The property is located 34 miles off the North Carolina coast and is actually in international waters.
The video showed what visitors experience, and said the biggest issue is the fear of being out in the middle of the ocean.
I think it would be a cool place to visit and as an introvert who kind of loves solitude, the idea of being miles away didn’t intimidate me.
What did draw me up short though was the meal prep that involved a lot of fish.
Ick.
I’m not a picky eater but I do not like seafood.
I googled the place after I watched the video and it’s not a hotel anymore, but it still welcomes visitors.
It caters to the adventurous spirit.
After all, this place is routinely battered by hurricanes and is located in shark-infested waters.
But just as some writers retreat to the mountains for quiet, I could see the merit of sitting in the middle of the ocean to write.
Though I think my second fear (after a diet of seafood) would be what the saltwater air would do to my MacBook.
Anyway, the point of all this goes back to the fear of isolation.
Most people do not like to be alone…
At least not long term.
And we aren’t meant to be alone.
We are called the Body of Christ and we are called to have fellowship with each other, pray for one another, offer encouragement, support, and help one another through our spiritual gifts.
But even when we’re alone, or feel isolated, the Holy Spirit is always with us.
Deuteronomy 31:6 CSB says, “Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the Lord your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”
Let’s look at five amazing things about that promise:
- There’s no “if’s” or “buts.”
- It’s declarative, not tentative.
- It’s personal because it’s the “Lord YOUR God,” (emphasis mine).
- It emphasizes that there is no need to be afraid and encourages strength.
- It confirms that you’ll never find yourself isolated, alone, miles from help or security.
It doesn’t matter if life throws you in the middle of a hurricane, or you find yourself surrounded by those who would devour you.
Our God is with you.
Jesus walked on water and the winds of a storm obeyed Him.
How can we be afraid of anything when we have Him on our side?
How can we worry when He is always with us?
Today, as you pray, thank God for His promise that those who believe will never be isolated and separated from Him.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you believe this promise when you feel isolated, alone, or the storms get too rough.
