PRAYER PROMPT ••• Stand firm.
Stand your ground.
Stand tall.
Stand up for what you believe in.
When we believe something, we stand up for it.
Whether it’s our family, our children, our home, our political choices, or the rights of others – we are quick to stand up to be the voice of people, things, or causes we want to protect.
Are we just as zealous for standing up for our faith and belief in Jesus Christ?
A few weeks ago, I watched “I Am Not Ashamed” on Pure Flix and have been so inspired by the story of Rachel Joy Scott.
I’ve thought of her often, and her willingness to die for what she believed.
If you were staring down the barrel of a gun, could you stand up for Jesus?
We know that Peter denied knowing Jesus — in fact, did it three times (Mark 14:66-72)!
At that time, the Holy Spirit had not come to believers (refer to the Day of Pentecost – Acts 2).
Therefore, Peter was relying on His own strength to stand up for Who he believed in.
Rachel Joy Scott had the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, He equipped her to be strong enough to proclaim her faith, even when facing eminent death!
Because of the Holy Spirit’s intercession in our lives, He equips us to face difficult challenges, including the ability to face down a barrel of a gun.
But sometimes, the enemy is wielding words, not weapons.
That happened to me recently when I was called a Jesus-freak.
More things were said, but I’ll leave it there.
Yes, I am exactly that.
Proud of my faith and even if it breaks my heart, I will stand up for Jesus.
In Luke 12:11-12, Jesus said, “And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”
Today, as you pray, thank the Holy Spirit, who is in you, that you don’t have to rely on your own strength.
Thank Him that He is there to lead you, guide you, empower you, and yes — help you to stand firm in your faith for the Lord Jesus Christ!
