PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I am going to play the role of Captain Obvious this morning: friends are important.
We need each other.
Sometimes, we just need a little encouragement…
I can’t tell you how many times I call on my friends for that reason…
When I need prayers, encouragement, help with perspective—I am grateful for them.
Paul wrote of this in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.”
Paul wasn’t speaking of superficial encouragement, though every girl needs to be told she looks nice in her jeans!
He was referring to spiritual encouragement.
An encouraging word from a friend is often exactly what we need to persevere…
To keep praying…
To keep trusting God…
To help us stay grounded in His truth.
What are ways we can encourage our friends?
Praying for them is always top of the list and most important thing we can do.
But we can also encourage with notes, texts, phone calls, and you just can’t underestimate the amount of encouragement a cup of coffee can bring.
Today, as you pray, thank God for our encouraging friends.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you be an encouraging friend to others.
