My Grace-Full Life

6.26.22 Personalize the Word: 1 John 4:21

PERSONALIZE THE WORD:  1 John 4:21 NKJV

ORIGINAL VERSE:

And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

PERSONALIZE IT:

And this commandment we have from Him: that {if} ________ loves God {he} must love his brother also.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY:

Holy Spirit, There is so much hatred in the world. But those who disagree with me are not my enemies — even when they see me as theirs. Help me to love others, and be a reflection of the love Jesus has… the selfless, compassionate love that is impossible in my strength, but possible because of You living in my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Disclaimer:  This is not meant to re-write Scripture. The Bible is clear that we are not to add or takeaway from it. However, if you’re a new believer — you may struggle to figure out how these verses apply to you… or if you’re a seasoned believer, you may have grown numb to the words from familiarity.  This exercise isn’t meant to alter or change God’s Word or the context of the verse.  Instead, the goal is to remind us how personal His Word is. The Bible is God’s love letter to you and me. As one person put it, “The Bible is the only book, where the Author is in love with the reader.”
