My Grace-Full Life

6.26.17 Prayer Prompt: Sempervivum

PRAYER PROMPT ••• Several years ago, I did some work for a couple of women who named their business Sempervivum.
They explained to me that the name meant “always living” and it was one of those things that stuck with me.
Sempervivum are succulent plants and are noted for their heartiness and ability to retain water.
They can live under the best and worst conditions.
As a Christian, it seems we can learn a lot from sempervivum.
Namely, just as this plant absorbs and retains water, so should we absorb and retain the Word of God.
Bible reading is an essential part of our walk.
I’ve written this before and I’m sure I’ll write it many times in the future, but my understanding of who God is… my appreciation for His grace and mercy… my gratitude to Jesus… it grows and strengths through the daily watering of my mind with the living waters of God’s word.
And like the sempervivum plant, our ability to withstand the best and worst conditions is dependent on Him!
The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:11-13, “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Today, as you pray, ask God to give you an unquenchable thirst for His word.
Ask Him to use it to show you how to be sustained in any condition you face.
