PRAYER PROMPT ••• The quote on today’s graphic is both true and poignant.
We’ve all seen pictures of historical, ancient ruins; cities buried under centuries worth of dust and debris.
Do you think the citizens of those once-great cities imagined their homes laying in waste and ruin?
I’m taking a wild guess that they didn’t.
Most people don’t think beyond the here and now.
And here we are, hundreds of years later, on the same path.
For the most part, people assume they are invincible.
But it’s not just trends that come and go; people do.
Civilizations do.
We can’t imagine ourselves as a long-forgotten past.
Yet we ignore that there could be a future without us.
However, there’s hope.
Our entire future is mapped out in Scripture.
The story has already been written and the book has several climatic scenes.
The first happened 2000 years ago when Jesus was born, grew to be a man, willingly died on the cross for our sins, and conquered death when He stepped out of the grave three days later.
The next climatic part of the book is yet to come – it will begin with the rapture of the church, and culminate in the glorious re-appearing of Christ, when he takes down Satan for once and for all.
Jesus wins.
Period.
End of story.
So the question today is this: are you going to be lying in ruins and defeat when the future comes?
Or will you be a new creature in Christ?
Because while the world decays around us, those who believe in Jesus are promised eternity.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Today, as you pray, if you’re not sure where your place is in the future, please ask God to help you become a new creature so you’ll be prepared.
If you’re already a new creature through Christ, please pray that others will see their need.
It isn’t God’s will that anybody should die without His saving grace (2 Peter 3:9).
Ask Him to use you to His purpose – to help share the love and hope of Jesus Christ.
