PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• How often do you worship God during the week?
For many, worship is reserved for Sunday.
But worship is far more than church attendance.
Before we go there, let’s look at today’s signature verse—Psalm 95:6, as well as verse 7, “Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!”
Nowhere in those verses does it refer to Sunday, or imply that our worship should only be one day a week.
It implores us to worship Him because He is our God.
Our Creator.
Our Savior.
Worshipping Him should be an everyday occasion!
Let’s move over to Colossians 3:14-17, which says, “Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
I think verse 16a is a perfect summation—“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.”
When we let Christ fill our lives, worship becomes part of every day.
We are able to live out praise to our Savior as it describes in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”
Because worship doesn’t just happen in a church pew.
It happens when we pray on the way to work; when we give to the church and other ministries; when we listen to Christian music; when we choose to forgive someone who wronged us; when we make a choice to follow Jesus, rather than the world.
Moment by moment, we have opportunities to live in worship.
Today, as you pray, thank God that He is worthy of our worship!
Thank Him for Sunday and the chance to worship with other believers.
But ask Him to fill your heart with an every-day-of-the-week-longing to worship Him.
And by doing so, become stronger in faith and closer to Jesus.
