PRAYER PROMPT ••• Today, I’ll be spending the day working at an annual community event.
Though it’s free, visitors are encouraged to bring donations to our local food pantry.
As I was getting things ready for the day, it occurred to me how often I waste food.
As much as my husband and I complain about wasted food, we’re both guilty.
Deuteronomy 15:11 says, “For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.’”
That still applies to our communities today.
As I think about how often I complain that there’s “nothing in the pantry,” I need to remember that for many, that’s a literal statement… not the figurative one it is for me.
When my husband and I say those words, the translation is, “there’s nothing we want to eat in the pantry.”
Whatever food is on our table is a direct blessing from the hand of God.
Today, as we pray, let us remember to thank God for our food and not take what we are provided for granted.
Be grateful if you have enough, and if you’re able, share with others.
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 — But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
