PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• When I was a teenager, I almost touched a dolphin.
We were at Sea World and after a show, we walked up to the tank where the dolphins were swimming.
The trainer was answering the questions of others, but I wasn’t listening.
I was watching one particular dolphin who was swimming close to me.
The dolphin raised its head out of the water right in front of me.
But as I tentatively reached out, the dolphin snapped his mouth sharply and I pulled my hand back in surprise.
He swam away.
I left incredibly disappointed by my near-experience.
People often talk about wanting to experience God, but they feel He’s out of their reach.
They get close, but before they can truly connect, they pull back.
Some reasons may be they are scared to get involved with a church and people they don’t know.
Maybe someone in the church hurt their feelings and left them jaded.
Maybe they don’t think they are good enough or smart enough.
There are many reasons why someone may hesitate to embrace the experience of meeting God.
We’ll go over these reasons, but any and all excuse—all are lies from Satan who absolutely does not want you to know God.
First, people in a church are imperfect people who are there to worship a perfect God.
People disappoint.
Not God.
Satan plants those seeds of fear and doubt.
Some churches may not be a good fit for every person, but people should never be the reason to avoid an opportunity to worship God in His house.
As for being good enough?
Jesus said in Mark 2:17 NLT, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
No one is good enough to experience God, but Jesus came to make a way.
Not smart enough?
No one is smart enough because God’s ways are not ours (Isaiah 55:8-9) but the more we know Him, the more we understand.
You can’t get to know someone if you don’t spend time with them.
God already knows you (Psalm 139); He wants you to know Him.
The Holy Spirit gives wisdom generously to anyone who truly wants to understand and experience God (James 1:5).
The bottom line is a tentative reach to God is a start.
You may be startled by something you don’t expect, but keep reaching.
Don’t miss the most incredible of all opportunities.
To meet and experience God on a personal level.
Today, as you pray, thank God for wanting to know you.
Pray that you will reach out, even if you’re scared, to know Him in a more real, personal way.
