5.3.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Perceived Perfection

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• I think ballet slipper pink is the most beautiful, perfect color.
Now with that said, I’m a sucker for any marketing campaign that comes along in this perfect shade of pink.
To the degree that I even bought strawberry yogurt at the store because the container was so pretty.
Y’all, I don’t even like strawberry yogurt.
I bought into the marketing idea that if the package was attractive, the contents would be good.
I was wrong.
I didn’t let it go to waste, but eww.
Most of us have done this, right?
That is why marketing professionals exist, after all.
They use packaging and creative ideas to engage us and make us want to try their product.
They sit in long meetings focused on the question, “What will appeal to our customer’s senses and give the perception that this product will solve their problems or meet their needs?”
We have ideas of perfection that tend to follow us around, and they go far beyond marketing efforts.
My idea of perfection may not be yours, but we all have some kind of perceived perfection.
It’s what we have built up in our minds as the absolute solution to any problem.
Maybe it’s a certain dress size; or a certain car; or certain kind of house in a certain kind of neighborhood.
We may achieve the coveted item or status, but that doesn’t make our problems go away.
Perfection only exists in Jesus.
Everything else falls short.
Through His perfection, we have a perfect Bible and we have a perfect salvation.
While we can never be perfect ourselves and while we’ll still find ourselves in perfect messes, we can count on His perfect love and perfect forgiveness.
Our perception of perfect is going to disappoint.
But Christ never has and never will.
Hebrews 5:8-9 NLT sums it up, “Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him.”
Today, as you pray, offer praise for Jesus’ perfection!
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you follow His perfect lead.
Ask Him to help you focus on the source of perfection, and not be distracted by perceived perfection.
