PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• One of the most popular verses for a wedding comes from Ecclesiastes 4:12b, “A cord of three strands is not easily broken.”
The illustration is for a husband and a wife to include God in their marriage in order to strengthen their bond.
And though I’m married, I’m sensitive to those who are single since I was for a long time…
So let’s look at this verse from a different angle.
I believe this is something we can look at in a more general sense.
If one strand of the cord represents you…
And one strand represents God, what is the third?
What if we assigned ownership of the third strand to our churches?
When God’s people are united with the purpose of seeking His will, He will do powerful things.
He loves it when we come together for Him.
When Jesus prayed for us in John 17, He said, “May they all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us, so that the world may believe you sent me” (John 17:21).
So you, Jesus/God who are one, and other believers.
When we are united with Jesus and the church, then the world can see the love of God (v 23).
As David wrote in Psalm 133:1, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!”
Today, as you pray, thank God for the strength He brings when He is a part of a cord of three.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep Christ at the center of all your relationships.
Whether you are married or you are united with the church in following God—ask the Holy Spirit to bind you together with His strength.
