PRAYER PROMPT ••• John 3:16 says, “’For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.'”
This is, without question, one of the most known verses from scripture.
Often, it’s the first Bible verse kids memorize in Sunday School.
Unfortunately, in the past, I often read it so fast, the powerful message got lost in the process.
I’m trying to begin the habit of breaking down verses… analyzing them and learning them on a more personal level.
I want to take the time to savor each word and get to the heart of it, understand the root of the translation, find similar scriptures… the verses I’ve done this with have proven to be a great and challenging exercise.
I really want to make this a regular habit as I study the Word.
With that said, one of the easiest ways to get started is to insert your own name into scripture.
I’ve done this with several verses and in this case, as we look at John 3:16, the verse takes on a deeply personal meaning when I read it as, “For God so loved Denise, that he gave his only Son, that if she believes in him, she should not perish but have eternal life.”

The Bible is God’s love letter to us, and it’s how we get to know Him personally.
Today, as you pray, ask God to help you understand His word better, and to help you feel more personally connected to Him.
Ask Him to show you how to savor each word of scripture so it will carry you far beyond the moment in which you read it.
