My Grace-Full Life

5.2.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Get Some Rest

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• When I was 19, I worked at the mall and on the nights I had to close, I’d get home around, take a shower, and wait for friends who got off work at midnight.
Then, we’d meet up (don’t laugh) at the Waffle House and hang out until 2 or 3 in the morning.
I’d go home, sleep fast, and then go to work at 8 to open the store.
I did this three or four times a week for months and as I look back on it, I want to ask the 19-year-old me, “How?!?!?!”
No way I could do that now.
Any interruption to my sleep completely throws my mental dexterity out of whack and my body goes into exhaustion mode.
Such has been my week.
I have an event to prepare for on Saturday that I wasn’t expecting and though I’m grateful for the opportunity to promote my business, as a planner, last minute events stress me out!
So I haven’t been sleeping well for worrying about my to-do list and battling allergies.
For a woman who still acts like a petulant five-year-old whenever confronted by the idea of a nap, I actually had to take a couple this week.
They made me feel worse, as naps tend to do (at least for me).
Then, an amazing thing happened last night.
I forgot to set my alarm clocks.
I woke up at 6:15 this morning (which is luxuriously late), and felt refreshed for the first time in days.
I thanked the Holy Spirit this morning for some much-needed rest.
Psalm 127:2 says, “It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”
These words emphasize our need for rest and His care for us.
God didn’t design us to burn the candle at both ends!
He wants us to have balance!
While some weeks will be crazier than others, we need to remember to keep taking it all to Him.
We don’t have the time to NOT still kneel before the throne and be renewed by His spirit.
This morning, I’m humbled as I realize the truth that “he gives to his beloved sleep.”
I am His beloved.
And so are you.
Today, as you pray, thank God for rest!
Thank Him that even on our busiest, most stressful weeks, He is looking after us and taking care of us.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you rest in that truth as one of God’s beloved.
