PRAYER PROMPT ••• I love denim.
My jeans are my favorite thing to wear and I love denim so much, even my couch is denim.
Denim brings a type of casual comfort that suits me perfectly.
Because as much as I like girly things, I’m really not a dress up kind of girl.
With denim though – you can dress it up or dress it down.
It’s so easy to stay comfortable and yet be versatile.
We try to make a lot of things in our life versatile… including our faith.
We act one way at church (dressing up those denims according to the people we’re around!) and another way when we’re out and about in the world (grubby jeans, t-shirt, flip flops… blending in, not drawing attention).
However, versatility and faith do not go together.
Like your favorite pair of blue jeans, you should enjoy the comfort of your faith, and rest in the security of your salvation.
But Christians should never wear their “jeans of faith” with that dingy t-shirt and flip flops… we shouldn’t want to blend into the world and only share our faith with those who already believe.
The Bible says, in 2 Timothy 1:8, “Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God.”
Why are we hiding?
If we are willing to display our faith in front of our church friends, shouldn’t we be as willing to share it in the world?
We are called to be set apart, not blend… we are in the world, not of it, and therefore, when we’re measured by the world’s standards, we should stand out (John 17:14-15 and Romans 12:2).
Today, as you pray, ask God to help you wear your faith in a way that sets you apart.
Ask Him to give you confidence to be bold as you live in the world, but not of it.
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 – But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
