4.7.20 Praise & Prayer Prompt: A Wake-Up Call

TODAY’S SIGNATURE VERSE ••• And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17 ESV)

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• No matter where you are in this global quarantine, I think we can all agree that these last few weeks have resulted in the longest year ever. So, what have you been doing? I think many of us always had grand ideas of how much we would accomplish if we could get locked in our houses for a few weeks. And some have made progress. (Show-offs.)

Many people also think that they need to wait until life slows down so they can clean up their hearts before they turn to Jesus. That’s actually the opposite of true… we can go to Jesus as messed up train wrecks. Jesus said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mark 2:17). Jesus is really great at changing our lives when we let Him! So we don’t need to “get ready” as much as we need to get humble.

The world has been shaken! God is still in control and I’m not trying to claim that He’s allowing this to happen as a punishment. But I do think it’s a wake-up call. Our priorities have been way out of whack or a long time. God did not design us to go at the breakneck speed we move at… He designed us to have rest. He designed us to worship Him! And after sin entered the world, He sent Jesus to save us and redeem us. Yet, we have a bad habit of brushing all that to the side because we’re “too busy right now” or “I’ll pray whenever I have more time.”

Not many of us can use that as an excuse anymore. Despite the circumstances, we have a tremendous opportunity to reconnect with God right now. We have a global pandemic in our world, but it’s the spiritual sickness that is the real problem. We only have one cure for that and Jesus is the great Healer. We need Him to be made right and whole before God.

So, there’s no time like the present. Let Jesus clean you and wash you with the power of the blood He shed for you and me! Let Jesus heal hearts that have prioritized everything else for way too long.

Today, as you pray, thank Jesus for being the One who can heal and restore us to true fellowship with God. Ask the Holy Spirit to remove the pride that thinks you can clean yourself up… and ask Him for the humility that admits you need Jesus to be Lord of your life.
