4.5.17 Prayer Prompt: Peace Trumps Patience

PRAYER PROMPT ••• There’s an old adage that says, “Never pray for patience because then, God will give you reasons to be patient. Instead, pray for strength to bear your situation.”
I used to heed this advice, almost like it was a Biblical-superstition.
I would pray, avoiding the word “patience” like it was a land mine that would explode if I dared utter it or even think it.
If the word “patience” did pop up in my prayers, I’d quickly amend, “No, no, Lord. I didn’t mean that! Give me strength please, not patience!”
These days — I’m not afraid to ask for patience, but more often, I still ask for something else: peace.
I’ve found that by asking for peace about God’s will for my life, suddenly, I have everything I need.
I have strength to handle the load.
I have trust that God’s way is better than my own.
I have increased faith that He won’t let me down.
My anxiety and worries diminish.
And I even have patience for His timing.
As you pray today, ask the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with peace about the situations you face.
Ask Him to take away your worries and replace them with His holy peace…. and savor the moment when your heart and your head are in total agreement, “Yes, I know that God’s got this. I can wait for Him.”
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 — But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
