4.30.17 Prayer Prompt: Be the Church

PRAYER PROMPT ••• After months of visiting a new church, my husband and I have decided to join it.
We are excited to “officially” become members of this church and claim it for our own church home.
But it’s not enough to simply be members.
I’m excited to be an active part of the church community.
Romans 12:4-5 says, “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”
This passage is one of several that speaks of spiritual gifts the Holy Spirit gives us, and how we should exercise those gifts to the benefit of the church.
As members of the body of Christ, 1 Corinthians 12:12 reminds us, “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”
We don’t all have the same spiritual gifts, as explained one verse earlier in 1 Corinthians 12:11, “All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.”
The Holy Spirit chooses which gifts we will receive and empowers us to use them for the good of the church.
As you pray today, ask God to help you serve the church in your assigned role… so that you can BE the church, not simply go to church.
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 — But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
