4.3.19 Praise & Prayer Prompt: Praise the Lord!

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• Good morning!
Praise the Lord!
Hey, it’s lunchtime!
Praise the Lord!
Time for bed?
Praise the Lord!
For many of us, it’s easy and natural to praise the Lord when our pillow is in view, but what about throughout the day?
This is something I’m really working on.
Last week when my son was in the hospital, I was so consumed with praying for healing, that I neglected to properly praise God in my prayers.
And as I’ve thought about this, I’ve realized how easy it is to rush through the praise part of my prayers…
“God, you’re great and awesome… okay, so here’s what I need you to do today…”
It’s not that bad, but you see my point.
The truth is, God knows He’s great and awesome.
He knows He’s all-powerful.
So why does He need us to tell Him?
He doesn’t NEED us to.
He WANTS us to.
He wants us to know it and acknowledge it too.
Praising His greatness gives us an opportunity to be humble and grateful.
It reminds us of how small we are and despite any illusions of self-sufficiency, we depend on God for everything, even down to the air we breathe.
Psalm 113:3 says, “From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”
Maybe it feels like you’re stating the obvious.
You are, but you do it anyway.
After all, you may know your spouse or child or friend loves you.
But you still want to hear them say it.
Today, as you pray, praise God.
Then, praise Him again.
And again.
And again.
All day long.
And as you praise Him, reflect on how much easier and more natural feeling it becomes when you shift your mindset to praise!
