My Grace-Full Life

4.13.18 Praise & Prayer Prompt: A Forever-Kind of Journey

PRAISE & PRAYER PROMPT ••• It feels like everyone is traveling this week.
My son got home on Wednesday from a week in New Orleans.
My mom got home on Wednesday from a trip to visit our relatives in Kentucky.
My team at work have been in California for several days.
And my husband is headed to Cincinnati this weekend to visit his family.
All big trips, but even a trip to the grocery store takes us out of the comfort of our own home.
No matter where we go though – we have God with us.
Psalm 121:8 NLT says, “The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.”
Forever is the key word here.
This morning, I got an email that made me think about travel (and the long-lasting, even forever, impact).
The email was from Ancestry.com.
My DNA results arrived (super excited!)
When I opened the landing page, there was a map of Europe with the dotted travel line over to America, and I couldn’t help but think of the journeys that carry us from day to day.
While my ancestors’ travels and immigration were anything but small trips, their travels had a profound impact on me—their efforts live on.
My mom’s side of the family settled in Kentucky.
My dad’s in Tennessee.
And they moved to North Carolina where I was born.
The journey of my ancestors created a path that has had far-reaching effects.
We have the same opportunity to create a path for the next generation.
The path of faith.
My parents raised me in the church, and their faith became mine.
While I took an 18-year detour, I’m a walking poster child for Proverbs 22:6, “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.”
While many come to Christ without the benefit of a family who raised them in it, the faith journey we show our family and friends is the most important and impactful one we can do.
It’s a legacy of eternal significance.
Today, as you pray, thank God for the faith journeys that began with Adam and Eve.
Thank Him for the legacies of bold men and women of faith who lived thousands of years before us, but whose impact endures and still touches us today.
The faith of Abraham as he prepared to sacrifice his son…
The faith of Moses who was reluctant, but obeyed and led the Israelites…
The faith of Rahab who helped the Israelites conquer Jericho…
The faith of Ruth as she traveled and cared for Naomi…
David… Isaiah… Mary… Joseph… John the Baptist… Mary Magdalene… Peter… Paul… John— to name a few.
Pray that your life journey will include a road of faith long enough and wide enough to accommodate many who want to travel with you.
