My Grace-Full Life

4.1.17 Prayer Prompt: Grief and Memories

PRAYER PROMPT ••• This is always a sad week for me. Six years ago, my grandfather passed away on April 1st.
A dear friend continues to mourn her son, who died two years ago this week. A
And this week, I also learned that two friends have lost their mothers and a friend lost her uncle.
The darkness of grief seems at odds with the glorious sunshine and spring weather, which helps remind me, God is a constant presence — He is there to give us light and hope, even in our darkest times.
Moreover, it’s promised that He will provide comfort for those who mourn.
I know that to be true because after six years, mine is now a season of remembrance. Because God’s word is true — “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
It’s okay to miss our loved ones.
Even Jesus wept tears of sorrow and grief for someone He cared about (John 11).
But someday, every tear will be wiped away (Revelation 21:4) and if we have accepted Christ as our Savior, we will be reconnected with those who have died in Christ.
Our separation from those we love is temporary!
Today, as I remember my grandfather, I am thankful that God gives us memories and is steadfast in His presence and His comfort… as you pray today, thank God for the loved ones you miss and the role they played in your life.
Ask for God’s comfort on others who are beginning their own season of mourning.
Thank God for the truth of Psalm 73:26, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
NOTE: Feel free to comment, but these prayer prompts are meant to be between you and God. Matthew 6:6 — But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
